Frampton-on-Severn Sailing Club was formed on 10 June 1966. Major Peter Clifford of Frampton Court (d.1984) had allowed Frank Hazlewood and his sons to sail on the lake in front of the Court since 1961. When a new lake was formed near Watery Lane a few years later, Major Clifford supported the idea of a sailing club using it, in exchange for an annual rent.
