Vacuum and Blowing Engines (18 items).
Single-acting engine, with 54 inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, chain connection. Alteration of existing engine.
Coloured original and reverse general view of the engine, front view of the cylinder platform, plan of the engine, regulating vessels and blowing cylinder; plan of the cylinder, air pump etc. - original and reverse copies; martingales, adjusting screws, chain links, air pump cross bar, working gear handle, plans of the cylinder - reverse drawings; working gear - coloured original front and side views; piston rod cap - reverse drawing; section and plan of the engine and engine house, boilers, blowing cylinder etc., Nov. 1800, showing the engine with its original 60 inch cylinder; letter from Gilbert Gilpin dated Old Park Iron Works, 21 Jan. 1801, with sketch of conducting pipes; original portfolio cover, with pencil plan and section of the engine mounted inside.
Also sketches of air pump dated 30 Apr. 1812.Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 420. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 270.
For William Botfield. Old Park Iron Works, near Coalbrookdale. The concern became T. W. & B. Botfield, which The Catalogue of Old Engines spells as "Bottfield". This was an alteration of an existing atmospheric engine - Boulton Watt & Co. supplied a new cylinder, condenser, air pump, working gear etc.
