Administrative / biographical background

The Club, first established c.1799-1800, moved into the new Club House built by Smirke in Trafalgar Square in 1824. It moved again in 1924-1925 to 10 and 11 Carlton House Terrace, and from there to 86 St James's Street in 1951. In 1964 it left this address, its members being accommodated elsewhere; the Club was finally wound up in 1965. For detailed history see A/UNC/171.
