Administrative / biographical background

[no address] Date: [end of Feb 1891?]

At the end of his letter, M de Laveleye says that the sole means of saving a split ('scission') at Colmar is to hold to the essentials and not be diverted to side issues.

The International Conference of The Federation was held at Colmar Sep 1895.

de Laveleye died in 1892. Date of letter may be put as 1891 when de Laveleye retired from his post of President of the Federation. Also JB was abroad most of 1891. See letters of 18 & 19 Feb 1891 when she was staying with the de Laveleyes.

Yves Guyot was a French journalist of progressive ideas; he was a member of the Federation in the early days but resigned in 1865 because, he said, the Federation had not kept to neutrality in religious matters.

M Camille Schlumberger was the Mayor of Colmar.

Biog: M Emile de Laveleye (1822-1892); M Camille Schlumberger; M Yves Guyot
