Correspondence and papers of Sir William Coventry, as Secretary to the Duke of York, Lord High Admiral, 1663-1667; with a few later papers of 1672-1679. Included are letters of, and draft-instructions to, Prince Rupert and the Duke of Albemarle, the Earl of Sandwich, Sir Edward Spragge, Sir Thomas Allin, Sir Thomas Tiddiman, Sir Robert Holmes and other naval officers relating to operations on the W. Coast of Africa in 1663-64, to the Dutch war of 1664-67 and especially the attack of the Dutch on Sheerness and Chatham in June, 1667, and to the battle of Southwold Bay on 28 May, 1672.
