Deposited by Petworth Rural District Council and Chichester District Council between 1963 and 1979. RD/PW/55/1-16 and RD/PW/56/2/1, 2 were deposited by the County Surveyor in September 1978. RD/PW/58/1,2 were deposited by the Environmental Health Manager, Horsham District Council in May 1979. 35/23-27 were deposited by Finance Department, Chichester District Council, in March 1997.

A Rural Sanitary Authority was formed for Petworth Union in 1872 under the Public Health Act of that year. In January 1895 it became Petworth Rural District Council under the terms of the Local Government Act of 1894.
There were no changes in the boundaries of Petworth R.D.C. or its constituent parishes until the West Sussex Review Order of 1933 when several major alterations were made. These, and subsequent changes are tabulated below. Full details of all changes and the reference numbers of the appropriate Orders and plans may be found in Boundary Changes in West Sussex (W.S.R.O. MP 1348)
Barlavington : Nil.
Bignor : nil.
Burton : 1933, part of Burton was transferred from Petworth R.D.C. to Midhurst R.D.C. and to the parish of East Lavington. The remainder of the parish of Burton was transferred to the parishes of Sutton and Duncton.
Bury : 1933, part of Bury transferred to Fittleworth.
Coates : 1933, Coates and Fittleworth were united to form Fittleworth parish.
Duncton : 1933, part of Burton transferred to Duncton.
Egdean : 1933, Egdean and Petworth were united to form Petworth parish.
Fittleworth : 1933, Fittleworth, Coates and part of Bury were united to form Fittleworth parish.
Kirdford : 1951, Kirdford was divided into Kirdford and Plaistow parishes.
Loxwood : 1938, Loxwood was created from Wisborough Green parish.
Northchapel : nil.
Petworth : 1933, Petworth and Egdean were united to form Petworth parish.
Plaistow : 1951, Plaistow was created from
Kirdford parish.
Stopham : nil.
Sutton : nil.
Wisborough Green : 1938, Wisborough Green was didided into Wisborough Green and Loxwood parishes.
