Description

The records include some strays from the market courts of the borough, and a small number of papers relating to the holding of county Quarter Sessions and Assizes courts in the town.

Administrative / biographical background

The borough of Guildford was first granted a separate commission of the peace in 1603. By the 18th century, court leet business was also dealt with by the general quarter sessions court.
