The Worthing Group Hospital Management Committee came into being on 5 July 1948 as a result of the National Health Service Act. The Management Committee administered a group of hospitals consisting of: Arundel and District Hospital; Littlehampton and District Hospital; Southlands Hospital, Shoreham-by-Sea; Worthing Hospital; Swandean Issolation Hospital, Zachary Merton Maternity Hospital, Rustington; Sun Hill Convalescent Home, High Salvington; Millfield Convalescent Hospital, Rustington and The Children's Heart Home, Lancing (Hospital Year Book 1945 and 1968, HW 2/1/1).
Under reorganisation of the National Health Service which came into effect on 1 April 1974 the Worthing Group Hospital Management Committee was replaced by Worthing District Health Authority which administered an area consisting of the following civil parishes: Amberley, Angmering, Ashington, Ashurst, Upper Beeding, Bramber, Burpham, West Chiltington, Clapham, Coldwaltham, Coombes, Ferring, Findon, Henfield, Kingston, Lancing, Littlehampton, Lyminster, Parham, Patching, Poling, Preston, Pulborough, Rustington, Shermanbury, Shoreham-by-Sea, Sompting, Southwick, Steyning, Storrington, Sullington, Thakeham, Warningcamp, Washington, Wiston, Woodmancote, Worthing.
