Written to his mother and two sisters, July 1915 - October 1917, while serving with the 1st Dorset Yeomanry (2nd Mounted Division, 1915; 6th Mounted Brigade, January 1916; Imperial Mounted Division, February 1917) in the Dardanelles, July - October 1915, when he acted as a Military Landing Officer on A Beach East, Suvla Bay; then as Second in Command of his Regiment in Egypt, March 1916 - March 1917, and finally as commanding officer during the Palestine campaign, March - October 1917, including the 1st and 2nd Battles of Gaza.
