Gallantry Notes: MC: for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He collected a few men and a machine gun and remained within 30 yards of enemy trenches and kept the gun in action for 14 hours, inflicting severe casualties and at times under our own barrage and continuous fire from the enemy.;

Other Data: From E-Bay, Sept 03: born 16/08/1886, Graduate of Nottingham High Sch. A Bank Clerk. Enlisted 24/9/14 as 17490 Pte, N&D Regt. Commsn in Lincs Regt Jan 1917. MC (LG 18/7/17: for Conspic Gallantry and d.d. He collected a few men and an mg and remained within 30yds of enemy trenches and kept the gun in action for 14 hrs, inflicting severe casualties and at times under our own barrage and continuous fire from the enemy. Brother to Sidney Wade (b. 28/5/1891) prev a Pte 17493 N&D Regt and commsn in Lincs Regt. Died of ill-health in UK 26/10/18.

Other Notes: WADE, Lieutenant, HERBERT, MC, 17th Bn. Machine Gun Corps (Inf). 2nd November 1918. Age 32. Son of Charles Herbert Wade, of Linwood House, Mount Hooton Rd., Nottingham. A. 30. Vendegies-au-Bois British Cemetery - Nord, France.
MC: 18/7/1917 (NB: MC gazetted Lincs Regt, but obviously a "machine-gun" action.);
