Letter of John Hill, Secretary, Philanthropic Lodge, No. 107, King's Lynn, writing from Norwich, Norfolk to Robert Leslie informing the Grand Secretary that the new Lodge will meet at the Sun Inn, King's Lynn.

Administrative / biographical background

Philanthropic Lodge was granted a warrant on 22 March 1810 by the Antients' Grand Lodge to meet as No. 142B. The Lodge was constituted on 14 May 1810 while meeting at the Maid's Head Inn, Tuesday Market Place, Lynn, [sometimes called Lynn Regis and now known as King's Lynn] Norfolk. After the Antients' and Moderns' Grand Lodges formed a union to meet as the United Grand Lodge of England, the Lodge was renumbered in 1814 to meet as No. 172. The Lodge was renumbered in 1832 to meet as No. 124. In 1863 the Lodge was renumbered on the last occasion to meet as No. 107. The Lodge has met in many inns and taverns around King's Lynn but now meets at the Duke's Head Hotel, King's Lynn.
