Description

Collection of 44 miscellaneous items acquired while serving with the 7th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (24th Division), 1917-18. These include a ms note received on relieving another unit in the trenches 1917, various Divisional and Corps Situation Reports and Intelligence summaries 1918, Special Orders of the Day 1918, also German and French items picked up on the battlefields or relating to the Occupied areas.

The collection comprises 44 main items, which fall into two main categories: official and demi-official notes, orders, and similar material, also documents recovered from the battlefield or occupied zone. Although many of these either relate to Nicholson or bear ms notations by him, they do not generally refer to active operations. Many of the official summaries and orders were obviously removed by Nicholson from the notice board of his battalion officers Mess.

Administrative / biographical background

G B Nicholson was commissioned in the 7th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (24th Division) in April 1917, becoming a Lieutenant in October 1918. He left the Army Lists in about May 1920.
