Major Arthur Rollings, a newsagent in Kidderminster for more than 50 years, died on Monday at Kidderminster General Hospital, where he was taken after a heart attack. Major Rollings, who was 75, retired three years ago, when the family business of E. Rollings, Oxford Street, was sold to W. H. Smith and Sons, Ltd. Educated at King Charles I School, he was a founder member of the Old Carolians’ Association in 1912, and president in 1944. On leaving school he joined the Birmingham University O.T.C.. He was commissioned in the 13th Bn. The Worcestershire Regiment during the First World War, and transferred to the Machine Gun Corps to get a posting to France. In 1917 he was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Military Cross. After pro-

motion to Major, he was wounded and sent back to England. A keen sportsman, while at King Charles School he won the Fives Championship Cup and played cricket and football for the first teams; after the 1914-18 war he played for the Old Carolians C.C. for several seasons. He and his sister, Miss Edith I Rollings, took over the family business on the deaths of their parents. Major Rollings, who lived at 199, Comberton Road, Kidderminster, leaves a wife, formerly Miss Annie Hyde, and one son, John, who is a surveyor. The funeral is today (Friday), a church service at 11 a.m. at St. John’s being followed by cremation at Stourbridge. The family have requested that no flowers be sent.
