Correspondence with Overseas Bishoprics

Files of correspondence with and about Overseas Bishoprics, generally consisting of copies of outgoing correspondence and originals of incoming. Topics of conversation can include appointments, proposed Church Unions, visits of overseas bishops to the UK and of British clergy to the overseas diocese or province, news of events with the particular bishop's province, appeals for funds, and others. The application for and awarding of grants is also a regular discussion topic, along with other requests for financial backing. The files can also contain minutes of meetings of Councils or Committees, copies of Constitutions of Churches, reports from visitors to the particular overseas diocese/province or from delegates of overseas diocese/province to the UK, newspaper clippings and news bulletins, and brochures and promotional material produced by the dioceses or groups within them. The extent of material within the files varies from ones with just a few folios to others which are far weightier.
