Other Data: Mr. H. Crawford, of Golden Cross Lane, Catshill, has been informed that his only son, Private Allan Crawford, Machine Gun Section, Worcestershire Regiment, was killed in action on August 6th. His commanding officer, in a letter to his parents, expresses the sympathy of all his comrades, and says deceased was killed instantly by a shell, which fell among his section, killing him and wounding two others. He was in the front trenches at the time. He was buried behind the firing line, and a wooden cross has been placed over his grave. Private Crawford was 24 years of age, and enlisted in February last. After being in training he was sent to the front on June 24th. Before enlisting he was employed at the Austin Motor Works, Longbrldge.
