William Dyer of Wapley and Codrington, gamekeeper to Sir C B Codrington, Bt, informer.

Henry Dyer of Wapley and Codrington, Jeffrey Matthews of Dyrham and Hinton and Joseph Bence, constable of Marshfield, witnesses.

The latter deposed that when he went to search defendant's home, he was refused admittance and Long threatened to shoot him. Returning later with an iron bar he made forcible entry and found a partly-burnt hare and a net on the fire.

Evidence was given that the house had two outside doors, communication on the upper floor, but none on the ground floor. Occupants were: Moses Britten (against whom rates were charged), Samuel and George Britten and Long and his wife.

Defendant said he lodged with George Britten.

Pleaded not guilty.

Fined £5, half to the informer and the rest to the poor of Dyrham and Hinton.
