Administrative / biographical background

The band was formed c.1877 by members of Heap Bridge United Methodist Church. In 1891, they became the Volunteer Band of the Lancashire Fusiliers (later the band of the territorial army 5th battalion). After the war, they reverted to the title of Heap Bridge Brass Band. In 1939, they became the band of the Bury Fire Brigade. In 1945, the band adopted current title of the Bury Prize Silver Band. [Ref. RHB/1/1 Bury Times newscutting of 13/7/1973]
