Administrative / biographical background (Historical or biographical information about the creator of the record and the context of its creation)
-
The College was opened in 1850 to train male teachers, but the shortage of students caused it to be closed from 1868 to 1873 when it became a women's training college.
The original title of Bishop Otter's College was used when the College was a Diocesan Training School and should not be confused with its present title of Bishop Otter College.
