Account of William Beoley and William Staffordshir, Proctors of the Guild of the Holy Cross, the Blessed Mary, and St. John the Baptist, from the Morrow of the Feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 8 Henry VI., to the Morrow of the same Feast 9 Henry VI
The Account is rendered under the following headings--
Arrears
Rents of assize
Receipts of moneys. (58s 6d received from the Brethren and Sisters present at the Feast of the Guild; 4s 2d received from the Brethren and Sisters being there, namely, 2d from each; 3s 4d collected from Brethren and Sisters being at the Supper in the Hall by command of the Master after the Feast.)
Sale of skins. (20d received for the skins of 5 calves killed for the Feast; 21d for the skins of 10 calves killed for the Feast; 15s 10d received for "light" -silver)
Delivery of moneys. (Salaries, rents, candles, &c. One of the payments for rent is of 4s for the mansion of the Guild with the gardens.)
Necessary expenses. (Expenses incurred in the Counting-house on Monday next after the Feast of St. Lucy at the rendering of the account of William Wheler and William Couper, Proctors of the preceding year. Payments for beer, meat, fish, &c.)
Likewise necessary expenses. (Other payments for victuals for the Counting-house.)
Cost of the houses and other expenses. (A payment for beer for the Counting-house; 2d for cleaning the Images of the Holy Cross, the Blessed Mary, and St. John, in the Church of Stratford; a payment to Richard Payn for ringing the bell in the town for the soul of Thomas Brodon, and for making his grave, &c.)
Allowance of rents in decay. (The rent of Richard Payn, "Bedeman," &c.)
Cost of the light
Expenses of the Feast (with sub-headings of Corn, Malt, &c.) (4 qrs. 4 bushels of wheat baked into bread; 7 qrs. 5 bushels of malt brewed into beer; malt bought for fattening (pro mecatione) the geese; 30 pigs bought for 12s 5d; 121 geese bought for 23s 6d; 169 pullets bought for 14s 6d; 2 capons bought for 5½; 6 gallons "quacci" at 6d a gallon; 12d paid for carrying the beer from the town to the Hall, &c.)
