Description

Letter (holograph) advising Shakespear that "His Majesty Shah Soojah Ool Moolk ... has been pleased, as a mark of approbation of your services in Afganistan, to confer upon you the Third Class of the Order of the Dooranee Empire."

The letter is reproduced in the "Memorandum of the Services of Brigadier-Gen Sir R Shakespear" (RSAA/SC/S/RS/5, pp. 8-9).
