Description (What the record is about)
-
Full leather bound album, padded, measuring 220x275mm, with prints mounted two to a page, with pencilled captions beside each image. The photographs are undated, but relate to Bailey's period as political officer at Shushtar in Iran in 1917. The first section of the album, up to about print 50, records Bailey's journey to Shushtar, via Muscat, Kuwait and then along the Shatt al Arab and Karun rivers. Prints 50-86 show something of his life at Shushtar, with general views, ibex hunting parties, etc. In early 1918 Bailey received a telegram from Delhi asking if he was medically fit to undertake an arduous to Kashgar in Chinese Turkestan, and he was then instructed to make his way to India to received detailed orders. Prints 87-96 are views taken on board the ship Egra on which he sailed to Bombay. Prints 97-103 are hunting scenes at Maler Kotla in the Punkab and the remaining photographs, prints 104-113, are snapshots of very indifferent quality of the Taj Mahal.
