Description

Lever Brothers Limited Memorandum from Mr J.L. Ferguson to L.V. Fildes, Esq., Lever House: My Dear Fildes In connection with the transfer of the 'Sanitas' Compmany you will probably be aware that Kingzett [Norman Kingzett] has given a month's salary in lieu of notice to his Office Manager, Mr H.S. Hines. The position regarding Hines is that he was with us for a period of about 25 years on our various Branch Office staffs before he was transferred to 'Sanitas' at their request to take up the position of Office Manager and to bring their Office in line with ours. He has been with them ever since we took the business over, a period of about 7 years. to treat him as they have done, is in my opinion, a perfect scandal, but I do not see what we can do. I was mentioning the case to Hartland-Swann and he tells me that the Board have already agreed to consolidate Hines' Co-Partnership Certificates into a round figure. I see the total amount of Certificates he holds is £855 and I am under the impression (although I have no definite figure) that the amount agreed to for the consolidation was £1, 000. This, of course, on a perferential basis would give him £50 a year. I had a word with Mr Dean here this afternoon and he tells me he has had no instructions whatever in regard to Hines and this consolidation. can you let me know if it has definitely been arranged? Yours faithfully, "r "nJ.L. Ferguson 20 May 1926 [For related correspondence, see catalogue entries GB1752.LBC/136/86, GB1752.LBC/136/87, GB1752.LBC/136/88 and GB1752.LBC/136/89]
