Administrative / biographical background

Mrs. Goodwin taught at Shadow Moss school, Ringway Rd. from 1937 until it closed in July 1961. She taught the Infants class. Previously she had started the first nursery class (3-5 year olds) in Manchester at Chester Rd. school, Ancoats. She was also involved in accompanying groups of evacuees out of Manchester in the early days of World War Two. She comes from Withington originally, and her late husband's family were builders there. Robert Donat the film star was a childhood friend of hers. She and her husband were both very much involved with amateur dramatics in Gatley. She has lived in her house since it was built in 1931.
