These contain the Company's set of Board's secret drafts (from 1784) kept at East India House, with the signed approval of the Board on each draft. Some of the dispatches predate the establishment of the Board. Vol B, 1756-1771 [L/PS/5/538] relates to Bengal only. Vol 1, 1781-1795 [L/PS/5/539] includes two dispatches of 1781 sent by order of the Secretary of State.

Unlike other EIC dispatches which were drafted at East India House, from 1784 the majority of Secret dispatches were drafted by the Board of Control (hence the term Board's Drafts) then forwarded to the EIC Secret Committee for transmission to India.
