Records of Alfreton and Clay Cross Magistrates Court (formerly Petty Sessional Division) from 1868. It appears at first to have been known simply as Alfreton Petty Sessional Division. The court's area of jurisdiction included Alfreton, Ashover, Blackwell, Brackenfield, Clay Lane (Clay Cross), Ironville, Morton, Pilsley Pinxton, Riddings, Shirland, Somercotes, South Normanton, South Wingfield, Stretton, Swanwick, Tibshelf and Wessington.
These records were transferred to the Record Office by the Clerk to the Petty Sessional Division later Magistrates' Court in December 1963, November 1966 and July 1978 and by the deputy clerk to likeston Magistrates' Court in May 1987 under section 4(1) of the Public Records Act 1958.
