Description

32 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 29 inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.

Coloured original and reverse general view and plan of the engine and boilers (with a cold water pump air vessel pencilled in later); cistern - reverse drawings; reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and framing; parallel motion - coloured original drawing; working gear - coloured original drawings; 3 small drawings attached together - Cold water pump dated 16 Dec. 1801 and marked "See General Directions p. 4", jack head etc. for quick pump dated 15 Sep. 1802, jack head pump dated 21 Jun. 1803; bevel wheels - reverse drawings dated 3 Dec. 1802. All the drawings except the small pump drawings bear letter codes.

For Daintry Ryle & Co. Cotton mill, Macclesfield. The drawings sometimes refer to the firm as "Daintry & Ryle" while the Catalogue of Old Engines calls them "Daintry Royle & Co." Drawings of the steam apparatus bought in 1805 [see Portfolio 5/363] call the firm Daintry Ryle & Daintry. In early 1805 it became T. S. Daintry & Co., then Wood Daintry & Wood.
