Wirral Poor Law Union was formed in 1836, following the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834. It was the first poor law union to be formed in Cheshire under this Act. In 1861 nine parishes were transferred to Birkenhead Poor Law Union. Following the Local Government Act of 1929, which transferred the functions of the poor law guardians to county and county borough councils working through public assistance committees, Wirral Poor Law Union was dissolved.
The items listed below relate to the parishes of Ledsham and Puddington, which were transferred to Chester Rural District in 1933, following the dissolution of Wirral Rural District Council.
