Miss Ayers is one of five sisters, daughters of William Arthur Ayers and his wife Harriet née Rogerson. Miss Ayers used to work as a Secretary for the Electricity Board on Cheetwood Road.
Miss Ayers's father was born in 1883, in Heavitree, a district of Exeter. His father, Nicholas Rogers Ayers, had been in business as a Fly Proprietor, but failed. He came to Manchester in 1885 and worked for the Manchester Carriage Co., driving horse-drawn cabs, living in Cheetham Hill. Nicholas Ayers had married Eliza Bolt from Sidmouth, who used to wait on at functions. Besides the depositor's father, William, their children were: Annie, Gertie, Frances, Edith and Harry.
On her mother's side, Miss Ayers's grandfather was Joseph Rogerson, born 1840, died 1891, a warehouseman, who lived in the Heaton Park area of Manchester. He married Mary Ann Ashton, born 1847. Their children were: Zilpha, Ada, a weaver who worked near Agecroft, starting at six in the morning and finishing at six in the evening, Harriet, the depositor's mother, born 1882, died 1953, a small ware weaver, Ethel, also a weaver, Elsie, a secretary with the Bentinck Motor Company where she met her husband. She had taught herself shorthand and book-keeping and was also a very keen singer.
