WT Story, a jeweller in Dewsbury, opened a shop in Dalton Road on 29 September 1882 under the management of Frederic Diss. By 1922 Frederic owned the company and in that year he formed two private limited companies: WT Story Ltd. of Barrow and F Diss & Sons of Dewsbury. He shared the directorship of the Barrow company with his son, H Cecil Diss, and that of the Dewsbury shop with another son, F Sydney Diss. The shop is still operating from its original premises at 244 Dalton Road.
