Alderman Sidney Kimber (1873-1949) was a prominent figure in Southampton municipal life in the first half of the twentieth century. He became a town councillor in 1910 and was Mayor 1918-20. He pioneered the building of the Civic Centre and the Sports Centre and Golf Course and these are his working papers as Chairman of those Committees. He became an Alderman, Freeman of the Borough and was knighted in 1935.
