Members of the Institution's board set up the Governesses Mutual Provident Fund in 1937 as a limited company to operate as an independent providential association for providing pensions to governesses and school mistresses. The company was renamed the 'Women Teachers Thrift Association' in 1944. The association's Committee of Management included members of the Institution's Board of Management, two headmistresses of girls' schools and three depositing members. The association came to an end in 1965.
