Will of Joan Howes, widow of Richd. Howes of Aspley - Register of wills 2.7.f.66 v.
To 3 daughters, Alice, Eliz. & Ellen - 3 beasts, 2 hoggs, the corn all other things belonging to the howse.
To daughter Ellen - a cow, an aker of bear, land to be sowed for her, a land of rye. then I now make this equal distribution of my goods & moveables among my 3 daughters to the end they have some consideration & regard to their brother Richd.
To daughter Ellen - 3 sheep
To other 2 dau. - 4 sheep.
To Richd. - 2 sheep
To my son Jas. his child - the best [sheep] & a pair of sheets.
Executors: Alice & Eliz.
Codicil : Memorandum that whereas my will was that Alice & Eliz. should have the goods I gave to my daughter Ellen, I do hereby revooke that bequest, & do will that my sonne James Howes shall inioye all that portion I give her after her decease to him & his assigns, by reason he hath been tyed by his father to keepe her.

Will of Richard Howse of Aspley Guise, husbandman - Register of Wills, 25.f.64 v.
Messuage and lands in Aspley Guise are mortgaged for £33 to Robt. Stanton of Beckering Park gent. & Robt Stanton his brother. Testator hopes that they will be redeemed by sons James & Richd., & divides it as follows:
To eldest son James - messuage wherein testator dwells, with yard & gardens, orchards & close of pasture as it is now severed and divided adjoining the messuage (5 ac.)
To younger son Richd. - my other close which lyeth east upon the before granted premises (5 ac.), lying on West side of messuage & land belonging to Robt. Byworth.
Rent of 6d. p.a. payable by Robt. Byworth out of house grounds that Michael Byworth lately had by lease or demise for many years yet to come of me.
The rest of the property in Aspley Guise is to be equally divided.
Wife Joan is to have all above premises for life, & if Jas. & Richd. refuse to redeem the mortgage, she or her executors (if she redeems) is to have them.
To daughter Alice Howse £.6.13.4d, to be paid by son James on 2nd Feb. 1611/2
To daughter Eliz. Howse£.6.13.4d, to be paid by son Richd. on 2nd Feb. 1611/2
Wife Joan & son James are to be at equal charges in maintaining daughter Helen for life.
To wife Joan 5 of best ewes.
To son Richd. 13 sheep; young bay mare with star on forehead; books & all working tools except anvil
To son James 15 sheep.
Executors : wife & son James.
Richd. is to make fence of partition mound between the said bequeathed Home closes from the street to the cross hedge & James to make them between the cross hedge & the field. 24 Jan. 1601/2
