Description

These sale particulars, or sale catalogues cover the period 1825-1925 and were the documents by which a solicitor or sales agent advertised a property for sale.

Some of them relate to one property at a time but the majority relate to several properties, particularly if they were to be sold by auction.

Some appear to include relatively humble houses as some of the larger estates, such as Holme Lacy and Rotherwas, were split up and the estate cottages, farms and agricultural buildings were sold off.

These sales catalogues originally formed part of the Hereford City Library's local studies pamphlet collection. Hereford library had a historic arrangement with several of local estate agents to collect catalogues of any important properties that were being sold. This was originally started by the then Librarian, F. C. Morgan. These sales particulars have since been transferred to Herefordshire Archive Service. They have been listed here by their original Hereford Library PC â??Pamphlet Collection' reference number rather than being rearranged by date.
