Description

Pumping and Canal Engines. (16 items).

Single-acting engine, with 64 inch cylinder, 8 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam.

Reverse plan of the engine and boiler houses, plan of the tunnel, transverse sections of the engine and boiler houses, longitudinal section of the engine house and pump well, longitudinal section of the boiler house and boiler, sections and plan of the pump well; section of the pump - original and reverse drawings (attached to the original is a small sketch of the working barrel sent from Gilbert Hamilton to Richard Lewis); steam and feed pipes, pump rod - original and reverse drawings; sketches and notes of the water levels etc. marked "with Mr. Hodgkinson's letter of 28 Dec. 1835"; press copy list of the stones required; list of tools required; estimate of the tools required; small pencil sketch of ?. All the drawings except the last 5 items bear letter codes.

For the Worcester & Birmingham Canal Co. Upper Bittell reservoir, Worcestershire. The engine was actually made in 1812, but not appropriated for the canal until 1835.
