Description

General correspondence [artificial file], arranged in chronological order. Weeded for circulars. See also CR2716/16 below. A great deal of correspondence reflects the complications of maintaining the school and dividing the payments for this with W.C.C. The societies using the school include the Coleshill Operatic Society, 1923-5. It also includes correspondence re the employment of individual teachers. The war-time correspondence reflects the problems of air-raid trenches 1939 (CR2716/15/295-7); salvage for scrap metal 1941 (CR2716/15/311-16); war-time nursery 1942 (CR2716/15/312-24 et seq.); the difficulties in hiring cleaners because of the high wages obtainable by women in the munitions factories 1942 (CR2716/15/330 et seq.). There is correspondence re the postwar Development Plan for education in Coleshill, particularly the problems of secondary education (the closure of the parochial secondary school and the opening of a new secondary school) and the question of religious bias (Anglican children being educated in an R.C. school) (CR2716/15/581-5; 614-28; 897; 900-2; 906; 913; 984); current problems are listed by the head-teachers in 1949 (CR2716/15/670-2; 692-4; 717); the application for controlled status 1949 (CR2716/15/726-41; 781-2); estimates 1950-1 (CR2716/15/766-7; 849-50); a temporary classroom made in aluminium by the Bristol Aerospace Co. was erected in 1950 (CR2716/15/825, 833-8); instruments of government for the secondary school, 1950-1 (CR2716/15/885-7, 908, 932-3); and head teacher's reports, 1950-1, 1951-2, 1952-3 (CR2716/15/990-1, 1086-7, 1153-6).
