The Lodge of Hope and Unity No. 214 was established in 1795. In 1795 the lodge met at the Ship, Bridge Yard, Tooley Street, Southwark, London. The lodge then met in various inns and taverns in London before moving to the Windmill and Bell, Romford, Essex in 1809. Between 1809 and 1824 the lodge moved between the Windmill and bell and the Cock and Bell, Market Place Romford. In 1824 the lodge moved to the White Hart Inn, Hare Street, Romford and it remained there until 1877 when the lodge left Romford for Brentwood, meeting at the White Hart Hotel in the High Street. The lodge remained at the White Hart in Brentwood until 1964 when they moved to their present venue, the Masonic Hall, Hutton, Essex. The lodge was first named the Lodge of Hope in 1816 and in 1824 became the Lodge of Hope and Unity. In 1845 the lodge was renamed the Romford Lodge but in 1852 the lodge the name was returned again to the Lodge of Hope and Unity.
