Christ Church, West Fordington was built in 1846 just off the Grove. In 1895 a site at Top O'Town was purchased for St Mary's, a chapel of ease and an iron church was erected there in 1897.
After representations from the Bishop and others, the permanent church of St Mary's was built on its present site and opened in 1912. However christenings and marriages continued to be performed at Christ Church until 1924.
