Sixteen original watercolours of views in Westminster by William Capon (1757-1827), decorative artist, scene painter and architect; drawn 1801-15, painted 1820-23. Laid down, surrounded by simple ink borders. Dates of drawing and painting written underneath, together with MS notes on the buildings, their history and (in many cases) impending demolition, and comments on the weather and time of day when painted. Reproduced in monochrome (no. 8 in colour) by the London Topographical Society, Views of Westminster Sketched 1801-1815 and drawn in water-colours by William Capon (1923-4), with Capon's descriptions annotated by Philip Norman, FSA, and an account of his life. Other w/cols by Capon are in SA Prints and Drawings Collections. Drawings by Capon, including views of Westminster Palace, were sold by Southgate, 22-4 May 1828.
