For over five hours he moved fearlesly from gun to gun, encouraging the men and directing fire, thereby largely contributing to the repulse of two counter attacks.;

Other Data: War Diary 10th-22 June 1917:" on the 21st, a distribution of awards took place in FRUGES. The recipients were Lieut WA Webb (MC), Lieut NF Hawes (MC), Sgt Hughes (DCM), Sergt Cross (MM) - the last named NCO was previously awarded the DCM.
