The volume consists of copies of Enclosures to Despatches to the East India Company Secret Committee from the Government of Bombay Secret Department, dated 20 May-19 July 1848. The despatches themselves are not included in the volume. The enclosures relate to various events in Aden, British India, Persia [Iran] and Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq]. The volume is divided into the following items:. The sets of enclosures to despatches are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume. The enclosures within each despatch are given a number, which is recorded for reference on the verso of the last folio of each enclosure, along with the original reference, and a description of each enclosure. The despatch itself (not included) is numbered 1, the abstract of contents listing the enclosures is numbered 2, and the enclosures 3, 4, etc.
