Accumulated by George Glew during his career.
George Glew was born on 31 July 1931. His formal education was completed at Sheffield University where he attained a BSc. and MSc. in C.Biol. Employment began in 1953 at the National Institute for Research in Dairying, University of Reading where he remained for two years. This was followed by seven years at the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Harwell, Berkshire, as Assistant Experimental Officer.
During his seventeen years (1962-1979) at the University of Leeds in the Procter Department of Food Science he variously became Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Director of the Catering Research Unit. His last appointment, from 1979, was as Professor and Head of Department of Catering Studies at the Polytechnic, Queensgate, Huddersfield, where he also held the post of Director of the Hotel and Catering Research Centre, and from 1985 to 1986 Dean of Faculty of Science.
In 1983 he was awarded a gold medal, after international competition, for practical developments in the uses of refrigeration.
Between 1968 and 1989 he was invited to present lectures in food sciences in the U.S.A., South Africa, Australia and throughout Europe.Whilst at Leeds University he also held Government Consultancies with the Ministry of Overseas Development in Kenya (1969 and 1972) and Mexico(1974)Throughout his career he was heavily involved in committee work at Leeds University, Huddersfield Polytechnic and other European and U.K. institutions.In his teaching capacity he personally supervised the researches of 2Phd.,7 M.Phil and 12 MSc students and undertook external examining for a number of U.K. academic institutions.Fuller detail may be obtained from a C.V. found among his papers.
George Glew died in 1990.
