Administrative / biographical background

In summer 1953 Cynthia Roberts was about to enter the fifth form at Dame Alice Harpur School and was encouraged to produce a holiday project. Being interested in churches and church architecture, she visited and photographed forty churches in Bedfordshire and with the help of relevant reference books, mainly Arthur Mee, compiled this book.
