The Manor Hospital originated as The Home, 4 Everton Terrace, Liverpool, an institution for mentally deficient female patients established in the 19th century. The number of patients in residence under the Mental Deficiency Acts fluctuated considerably. In January 1937, there were fourteen in residence, but this increased to fifty in January 1938. About 1949, the institution was moved to The Manor, Great Sutton and was subsequently called The Manor Hospital.
