These contain the evidence given by witnesses under examination in court. The entries from 1529 - July 1541 relate to the court of the archdeacon of Chester; thereafter to the consistory court of the newly-founded diocese. Entries relate to the usual causes - matrimonial, defamation, probate and tithe etc and the court's language is in Latin with the witnesses actual evidence usually given in English. Volumes for 1561-1566 (EDC 2/7) and 1570-1573/4 (EDC 2/9) have 18th and 19th century indexes.
