Son of Mr and Mrs JS Engall of Goldsmith Ave Acton. Enlisted as a Rifleman in September 1914 on leaving St Pauls School at the age of 18. In January 1915 he was offered a commission in his own Regt. Born at 23 Essex Rd, Acton and educated at St Pauls School West Kensington. Son of John Benjamin Sherwin Engall of 62 Goldsmith Ave, Acton. Originally enlisted in Queen’s Hall, London on 3/9/14 into 16 London Regt (Westminsters) as No 3141. He spent two years in the Cadet Corps 10 Middlesex Regt from 1910-11. Discharged to commission 15/1/15. Height 5' 11". His commission application, dated 14/12/14, states that he preferred a commission in 9 London Regt, occupation articled chartered accountant. In December 1916 his father was 54. (Officers Papers PRO)Death noted in war diary
