Letter of John Harrison, Master, Lodge of Sincerity, Plymouth to William White, Grand Secretary, Moderns' Grand Lodge

Date

24 November 1795

Description

Letter of John Harrison, Worshipful Master, Lodge of Sincerity, No. 254, Plymouth to William White, Grand Secretary, Moderns' Grand Lodge informing the latter about the behaviour of Richard Tregoning, former Worshipful Master of this Lodge while it met at the Peace and Fame Inn, Plymouth Dock. Richard Tregoning accused his brother, Hugh Tregoning, of committing adultery with his wife. In consequence the Lodge has relocated to meet at the Phoenix Inn, adjacent to Richard Tregoning's premises, the Peace and Fame Inn, Fore Street, Plymouth Dock. The Lodge has experienced difficulties in securing its warrant, jewels and funds from Richard Tregoning, who retains three Royal Arch sashes, which cost fifteen shillings and sixpence each. The Lodge has excluded Richard Tregoning, whom many consider insane as he has abandoned his business and almost murdered his wife. Letter countersigned by Hugh Tregoning, Senior Warden, James Brend, Junior Warden and John White, Secretary.
