Description

Page of postcards and photographs found loose in AD 1082/4, comprising the following:

- a Christmas/New Year card for 1903/1904 from Chipping Norton Fire Brigade [Oxon];

- the rear of a fire damaged cottage, location and date unknown;

- an unnamed group of nine firemen posed on a steamer, presumably Bedford Volunteer Fire Brigade;

- rescue drill being carried out with a fire escape and scaffold platform, probably Bedford Volunteer Brigade in Russell Park, Bedford;

- Captain Augustus Hill and eight other firemen posed in front of the open doors of Mill Street Fire Station, Bedford, with three appliances partly visible behind them, a hand-written date at the side being 18 October 1907;

- two firemen and a civilian posed beside a lightweight steamer, presumably "Victoria" or "Alexandra", a handwritten caption at the side noting that the photograph was taken at Howbury Hall in 1909;

- group of firemen, including Captain Hill, with a trailer, probably in the grounds of Howbury Hall in 1909.
