Administrative / biographical background

St. Mary's was built as a memorial to Bishop James Prince Lee in 1878. It was assigned a District by Order in Council, 4 Feb. (London Gazette, 7 Feb. 1879), from Christ Church, Bradford and a small part of All Souls, Ancoats.

In 1965 it was demolished and the parish united with that of All Souls with St. Andrew, the new parish becoming simply All Souls, Ancoats.
