Between Thomas Owen esq. and Thomas Leighton esq. one part, and Thomas Lascells and Edward Barton 2nd part. Whereas Queen Elizabeth by letters patent given March 1st 1588 conceded to Thomas Crompton, Robert Wright and Gelly Merricke all the tenement with appurtenances in Up Rossall and Udlington, lately in the occupation of Richard Sandford dec. and of Humphrey Sandford; paying yearly rent of £8 6s. 8d; and 2 pasture lands called the Mere fields in Up Rossall and Udlington formerly in the occupation of Katherine Evans of annual rent of 53s. 4d., all of which premises in Udlington and Up Rossall were lands of Francis Englefield knight. attained for high treason, and were conceded to Humphrey Foster and George Filton gents by royal letters patent given August 8th, 1586 for 40 years; with the exception of oak and beech trees which were reserved to the Queen but through present letters patent granted to Thomas Crompton, Robert Wright and Gelly Merrick with the premises in Up Rossall and Udlington. Afterwards Thomas Crompton, Robert Wright and Gelly Merrick granted premises in Up Rossall and Udlington to Thomas Owen and Thomas Leighton, for Consideration of a certain sum of money. June 8th 1589. Present indenture; that Thomas Owen and Thomas Leighton for a certain sum of money paid by Thomas Lascells and Edward Barton, grant to Thomas Lascells and Edward Barton, of all messuages mentioned above in Up Rossall and Uldington, with all appurtenances etc. To hold by Edward Barton and Thomas Lascells of the Queen, in free socage not in capite or by knight service , as held by Thomas Crompton, Robert Wright and Gelly Merrick. Thomas Owen and Thomas Leighton to warrant possession of premises to Edward Barton and Thomas Lascells.
