The file is comprised of correspondence and reports sent to and from the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel Hennell, relating to reports of slaves being imported from Africa to the Persian and Arabian coasts of the Gulf. Intelligence reports are sent to Hennell by his agents at Sharjah, Muscat, and Bandar-e Lengeh. In turn, Hennell reports on slave trading activities to Arthur Malet, Chief Secretary of the Government Bombay (Arab coast incidents) and to Colonel Justin Sheil, Her Majesty's Minister Plenipotentiary and Envoy Extraordinary at the Court of Persia (Persian coast incidents).
